So I’ve gotten back in to drawing again after such a long time.  Hopefully I can get back to making a cartoon series again.  After watching the Avatar: Legend of Korra I immediately got all excited again and thought I would draw on my iPad and see what I can come up with.  I know the picture is of Aang but I still love the original series.  By the way if you havent watched Avatar the Last Airbender.. you are sorely missing out on some of the best animation/story/humor and all around wonderful show that all can enjoy.. not just a super geek like me :0)

Am I excited for this film.. Well that would be an understatement.  After those initial twitter reactions to the film back after the red carpet, I’m completely stoked.  My friends tell me to calm down, that I’m going to ruin the movie for myself, but I don’t think so.  As bad assery exists in the form of my not watching all those gratuitous tv spots and trailers, I believe the best is yet to be seen.  What is the most exciting part about this movie for me?  Is it the years in the making? Or the tidbits they’ve given us over the past 5 movies ultimately alluding to the final ensemble?  While yes those are good, it is Whedon that has made me most interested in this film.  This dude knows story, humor, and how to put the whole package together and I knew from the beginning he would rock it.  Having not seen the movie I can’t really say he rocked but but again, those twitter responses were more than enough.

I have however indulged myself with pictures and stills from the film which some have even become my new desktop background (not to mention various “i” products.  Yes it is pretty sad but as dorks and geeks go, its quite wonderfully happy.

So what has happened now?  Well the geeks unite and force the significant others to join in.  We shall all be going to the midnight showing in our best renditions of each character.  Of course all the wives wanted to be Black Widow seeing as she is the only female role (I tried to mention Maria Hill but no one seemed interested).  Anyway I will be counting down the days as there won’t be many left before I can finally get a good nights sleep (which also probably won’t happen anyway).

On my trip to Cuba I fell in love with Cuban Dicharachos. Dichos for short, are colloquial expressions used to describe common day-to-day occurrences. These spicy expressions are colorful examples of how Cubans approach life with humor and inventiveness. Everywhere I would go, I would hear them and jot them down to later ask a family member.

For example, what does it mean when someone says “A buena hora, mangos verdes?”

I left Cuba with a book full (see attached photo) of dichos that I wanted to personally archive, organize, and share with the rest of the world. My vehicle: an iPhone/iPod/iPad app (perfectly appropriate for the geek that I am) called simply enough “Cuban Dichos“.

This app is the #1 Cuban App now on iTunes and I can’t tell you how many e-mails I get filled with dichos I didn’t have, including some new ones from the younger reggaeton generation in Cuba (ex: Hasta cuando son los 15 de Jacqueline?).

Nowadays, discovering a part of my culture is “un jamon.”

I know I know.. Just enjoy it for what it is.
